Running late for the orientation program was one thing, but not knowing the building's location after spending two years on the same campus was even more embarrassing.
We finally made it to the venue, only to be greeted by a few stares from the group who already started to engage for the day's program.
A little embarrassed, we quietly found our designated seats.
As we embarked on this new journey, we reminded ourselves that orientation programs like these are common around the world. Perhaps, we were briefed on a range of essential topics most importantly, how to navigate the campus smoothly throughout our research journey.
We were briefed on the key locations on campus, the main contact person and the important offices and facilities including the library, student centre and medical clinic.
What truly impressed me was the energy of the presenters, their warmth and lively nature in bringing the whole range of topics for the discussion. Indeed, they already made the beginning of the academic journey feel both exciting and reassuring.
