Throughout history, great wars have been fought by great warriors. The two World Wars were waged with immense force, claiming the lives of millions—both innocent civilians and soldiers on the front lines. While those wars belong to the past, no modern conflict has captured the world’s attention quite like the war in Ukraine.
From the very first day of Russia’s invasion, I have followed the developments closely—not because I support this aggression, but because I deeply care about Ukrainians and the countless innocent lives lost in this unjust war. I can only imagine the sacrifices Ukrainians have made to build their cities, their homes, and their future—only to see them destroyed in an instant from their neighbours hand.
Reading about the war in newspapers and watching reports on the news, I couldn’t help but feel immense sympathy for the Ukrainian people, who have lost their land, their loved ones, and their sense of security. Yet, amidst this tragedy, one figure has stood out as a symbol of resilience and courage –President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In my eyes, he is one of the boldest leaders of our time.
Ukraine is not a nation that has historically poured its resources into military might. Instead, it has focused on building a prosperous and peaceful country. But when faced with an existential threat, Ukrainians have refused to surrender. They have fought back with everything they have, defending their homeland against a powerful adversary.
Russia’s aggression has caused immense suffering—entire cities reduced to rubble, families torn apart, countless lives lost. It is unjust in every sense. Yet, the spirit of the Ukrainian people remains unbroken. Their unwavering determination to protect their sovereignty is truly inspiring. They must continue to stand strong until this unprovoked war comes to an end.
Recently, President Zelenskyy’s visit to the Oval Office took an unexpected turn. The meeting between him, the U.S. President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance stirred controversy—not because of discussions on military aid or diplomatic strategy, but because of Zelenskyy’s attire. Some critics, including Trump supporters, questioned why he didn’t wear a formal suit or even express gratitude in a certain way.
To me, this criticism is completely unfair. The world knows how desperately Ukraine is fighting for its survival. President Zelenskyy traveled to the U.S. to seek support, not to impress fellow Americans. Since day one of the invasion, he has worn military-style clothing—a symbol of his solidarity with the soldiers defending their country. In a time of war, there is no room for vanity. He is not dressing for diplomacy; he is dressing for war.
Imagine if the same situation unfolded in the United States. Would Trump stand beside his countrymen and fight for his land? Or would he retreat to safety, watching from afar? I have my doubts.
President Zelenskyy is not seeking war—he is seeking peace, justice, and the right for Ukraine to exist as an independent nation. It is absurd to question his commitment based on something as trivial as his outfit. Who could celebrate or dress for a ceremony when their people are unsafe and threatened?
"Winston Churchill visited the White House during World War II, dressed in his military uniform, because his country was at war. Zelenskyy has vowed to do the same until Ukraine is free from Russian aggression", isn't this a mark of a true leader.
Ukraine deserves respect, support, and lasting peace—not to be pressured or bullied from all sides. For his unwavering dedication to his country and the immense strength he has shown in leading his people through this crisis, President Zelenskyy deserves to be recognized as a true Hero. His courage and resilience should be honored with the Highest Peace Award Possible.
The Ukrainian people need support and solidarity, not criticism or debate over their president’s choice of attire.
